A small white cottage tucked away under stately pine trees, welcomes guests to a lovely Victorian setting. Upon entering, classical music plays softly in the background as servers' bustle about in 19th century maid uniforms, serving high tea. You feel as if you have stepped back in time.

Proprietress Doreen Walbracher opened the shop nine years ago. After years of tea collecting, and driving far and wide to teashops, she decided to purchase a franchise. Now independently owned, you can feel her love of all things tea related, in the exquisite decor of the shop.

In the main parlor, behind the cash wrap, is a wall of over 100 varieties of tea. Loose, bagged, and tisanes all line the shelves in glass containers. Many a customer is tempted to purchase tea on their way out. Displayed throughout the shop are lovely pots, tea sets, individual cups and saucers and various other tea items. Although most items follow in the Victorian theme, you will find Alice in Wonderland or Beatrix Potter sets displayed among the cabbage roses and pansies.

The menu consists of an array of traditional, as well as modern tea fare. From cucumber sandwiches, to the delightful Mousifour (a petit four shaped like a mouse) made especially for children. Prices range from $12 to $16 for the high teas. Many items are available a la carte. The menu changes often, to accommodate the needs of her regular patrons. A pot of tea runs $4.50 for any tea of your choice. Some rare blends are slightly more. Wine and champagne are available, as well as juice, or cocoa.

I sampled the Crown Jewel. A traditional afternoon tea plate consisting of Earl Gray tea, assorted sandwiches of chicken tarragon, smoked salmon, cucumber mint, nut pesto, corned beef, petite herb souffle blueberry scone, mini raspberry cheesecake, petite four and a chocolate truffle. Although it may seem like a lot, the portions were dainty, and just the right amount for a light lunch. My daughter was thrilled with the container of butter cookies left on the table with the tea. Every detail is well thought out, from the china serving pieces, to the little teapot cozies, to the variety of sugar cubes in white, brown and fancy shaped butterflies and hearts.

Lisa's offers a special event tea monthly. Reservations are required. Some are adult themed, while others cater to the younger clientele. Upcoming events include: A tribute to Jane Austen in September, Miss Spider's Tea in October, Raggedy Ann & Andy's Party in November, A Victorian Teddy Bear Tea, Joyeaux Noel (French inspired) A Christmas Carol, and Tea with Santa round out this year's events. Lisa's is available for private parties, showers and weddings.

As Doreen pointed out, "People come here because it's quiet and calm. They come for conversation, for romance, but mostly they come to build memories with their families." Being there brought back memories of childhood tea parties with my grandma. I only wish there had been such an elegant place to go when I was a child. My daughter can't wait to go back to the "tea party house." Lisa's is indeed a treasure.
