5 Teas to Spice Up Your Metabolism

It’s no secret that tea boosts your metabolism. But when I’m perusing the health and fitness magazines at my local gym— obviously, when none of us are in quarantine— the typical ads that they’re trying to push for “fat burning” tea derivatives are hilariously boring options. Epigallocatechin gallate in pill form? Really?

Personally, I’d rather have fun with boosting my metabolism. As an individual with an autoimmune hypothyroid condition, losing energy during the day and experiencing excess fatigue is one of my concerns, and I’ve got a fair number of clients with metabolic disorders of their own.

Besides, who doesn’t enjoy having an energy level that’s up to snuff? Being able to consistently combat the stress monsters of the day requires a significant investment of positive vibes, so it’s always good to have some support.

That’s why I’m excited to profile these teas from Adagio, which incorporate scientifically-proven ingredients to help rev up your internal engine:

1. Jump Start

Why not jump start the list with this bad boy?

Ingredients: Toasted Mate Tea, Black Tea, Cocoa Nibs, Cinnamon, Kola Nuts Inclusion, and Safflower.

What a powerhouse! Yerba mate has had its share of press for its benefits, thanks to self-improvement gurus like Tim Ferriss of the 4-Hour Body, and black tea also checks out as a metabolic helper.

But the best parts are also the tastiest. Did you know that cacao, cinnamon, and kola nuts are all powerful antioxidants, each with its own documented ability to take your metabolism to the next level?

The antioxidant part is key because reducing oxidative stress (essentially “anti-oxidation”) on the body reduces inflammation, which allows for better circulation overall. Better circulation means better nutrient uptake, easier respiration, and a whole host of improved bodily functions because the cellular pathways are cleared of metabolic gunk

2. Double Ginger

The only thing better than a double rainbow is— you guessed it.

Ingredients: Ginger, Green Rooibos, Red Peppercorn, Natural Ginger Flavor, Black Peppercorn, Orange, Marigold Flowers, Strawberries, Natural Peach Flavor, Natural Strawberry Flavor, and Natural Orange Flavor.

What a pleasure to vet this one! Ginger is a potent anti-inflammatory— and we just discussed the importance of this— as well as metabolism booster. It’s a two-for-one! And green rooibos is also a health star for the same reasons. Plus, it’s caffeine-free!

I love this option as a system supercharger if you’re sensitive to caffeine, but still want a little fire in your belly before bed. Thanks to the red and black peppercorn in there, your stomach will thank you for a multitude of proven benefits— plus, it just tastes good.

3. Pu Erh Spice

Now that’s a spicy mama!

Ingredients: Pu Erh Tea, Cinnamon, Natural Spice Flavor, Orange, Ginger, Aniseed, and Safflower.

Alrighty, let’s crack our knuckles and see what we have here.

This is another digestive superstar, thanks to Pu Erh’s influence that gets pumped up even more with all the goodness that we talked about previously that goes on in our friends ginger and cinnamon.

But did you know that aniseed is also amazing for your metabolism? It acts as a diuretic, which isn’t a bad thing if you’re looking to safely eliminate toxins or excess water weight. (Just in moderation, of course.)

4. Samurai Mate

Now this is the sound of a battlecry.

Ingredients: Yerba mate, Green Rooibos, Cinnamon, Ginger, Cardamom, Orange, Lemongrass, Aniseed, Mango Pieces, Natural Spicy Cinnamon Flavor, Natural Almond Flavor, Pineapple Pieces, and Papaya Flavor.

The great thing about saving this tea as next-to-last is that it incorporates so beautifully all the powerful elements that we talked about before.

By now, you’ve learned that yerba mate, green rooibos, cinnamon, ginger, and aniseed are our friends. Of the bonus ingredients— cardamom, orange, lemongrass, and mango pieces— I want to highlight cardamom because not only is it another excellent anti-inflammatory, but it has positive metabolic effects as well. Talk about a multi-win in a cup!

5. Black Matcha

Ingredients: Black tea.

So we already covered that black tea has impressive benefits for your health and metabolism, now this tea makes it even easier to have a cup. And for those of us that like a little kick in the rear for our caffeine fix, I couldn’t ask for better. Plus, where the heck else are you going to find black matcha? It’s like a unicorn. I’m delighted— and you should be, too.

Cheers!
